Gordon and Crosby are both natives of Nova Scotia -- Halifax and Cole Harbour, respectively -- and although they're separated by two years in age, because Crosby played up with the 1985 age group, the two were often teammates from about age 10 to 15. They're still friends now, one as the NHL's leading scorer and the other fighting for a spot with the Capitals.
So when Gordon scored his first NHL goal Tuesday night against Martin Brodeur in the Capitals' 5-1 win over the New Jersey Devils, Crosby sent him a text message offering congratulations. |
